Did you know that there are 5 different species within the rhino family? The Sumatran rhino, Black rhino, White rhino, Javan rhino and Greater One-Horned rhino. While the western Black and northern White rhinos have recently become extinct in the wild, there have been some fantastic successes in the fight for rhino conservation. In Africa, southern White rhinos now thrive in protected sanctuaries with a population of over 20,000. Of course there’s much more work still to do to protect these beautiful creatures, which is why when you buy this print you will donate £5 to the WWF to continue their vital efforts in the protection of wildlife for future generations.

 I shot this White baby rhino with its mother on an afternoon drive. Sitting atop the rhinos are Oxpeckers; they not only pluck ticks and other parasites from the rhino’s skin, but have also, in recent research, been linked to helping rhinos avoid poachers. Oxpeckers have exceptional vision and make hissing alarm calls when threatening animals (like humans) approach. This may be one of the reasons why in Swahili, Oxpecker translates to, “rhino’s guard”.

With a weight of 308g/m² the Photo Rag is one of the most robust papers from Hahnemühle. It is made of 100% cotton and has a matte surface. With its soft, fine texture, this paper is very versatile and is just as suited to colour prints as it is to black and white photographs. Photorag is suitable for mounting but its cotton texture means edges can fray if not carefully handled.
